My computer tries to shutdown after the screensaver has been on and I try to continue working! Can U

I have scanned my computer for viruses and spyware and it seems to be free of all this. I'm running Windows XP, SP 2, 150 GB hard drive which 108 gb is free. I defrag and scan my computer on a regular basis. Even if I'm downloading or just listening to music to causes all programs to shut down after the screensaver has been shut off by me. Just Wondering what could cause this.

I would like some additional information, and might help you find the problem in the process. Click on start, control panel, display. Select the screensaver tab.

1. What screensaver are you using? 2. There is a box for the system to request a password on resume, is that checked? Next click on the button labeled power. It should bring up a new window called ''Power Options Properties'', and the power schemes tab should be on top. 3. With the scheme you are currently using, what does it say in the selection box next to : turn off monitor, turn off hard disks, and system standby. Next click on the Advanced tab and it should have two check boxes, one for an icon in the taskbar and one for a password, followed by a selection box concerning the power button. Next is hibernation enabled? Also, some systems have an option that will either ignore or reduce sensitivity of the mouse as it relates to the power saving features; does it make any difference if you disengage the screensaver by the keyboard, say using the directional arrows vs. the mouse? Are you at the point where you go to use the computer and it will resume from screensaver and there is a box that lingers declaring something like - the system is preparing for standby, please wait - ? I had a system that would do that every time it tried to go into standby, so I just disabled that feature and shut it off if I knew that I was going to be away for awhile.
